Quilts and Other Stuff from Frances

To sell or not to sell???

I have a question for you…… I have been asked whether or not I would sell the piece entitled “Sunflowers in the Rust”. It was made simply because I had an idea and wanted to try it out.

How do YOU decide whether or not a piece is for sale? Please comment and give me some suggestions.

ALSO, how do you price your work??

Thanks for your help.

FINALLY, there is give-away approaching…..watch for my 100th post!!

  1. Very difficult one this as I have never sold anything, mainly because I believe that people are not prepared to pay what the item is worth. I have been at craft shows and overheard people, going by a stall that has the most beautiful items, saying 'I would never pay that, I could make it myself' -I don't think so!As far as deciding what to sell I would be pretty useless because if I liked it I would not want to sell it and if I didn't like it I would be thinking why would anyone want to buy it. There are my two useless replies, sorry about that. Maggi

  2. I try to decide how much time & money I spent making it and if you are really having a hard time deciding, ask some outlandishly high price and if they will pay it, then sell it!

  3. Hmmm, it's a difficult one, but if someone has expressed an interest in buying (congratulations)and you have no idea what to charge, why not throw the ball back in their court and ask them what they are willing to offer you. If it's too low a price for you to part with the item, you can always say so or just refuse to sell.As to setting out to sell a piece – sorry, I have no idea. I usually just give my things away, then I don't have to deal with the embarrassment of discussing 'filthy lucre' – but that's because I'm English!!!
