Presenting Lisa Bennett

Well….today is Friday and, by all rights, should be FREE MOTION FRIDAY!!  But, due to some technical issues, today’s video will be moved to TOMORROW.

Be sure to check back for part one of the second Mandala design.

Instead, let me present Lisa Bennet……

When we were in Texas, I had the pleasure of meeting Lisa Bennet who is a wonderful artist, specializing in “Graphic Naturalist Art”.

This is her artist statement…..

Naturalism, aesthetics and tactile design work are all integral parts of what Lisa has done for the past three decades. After twenty years of experience in the interior design business and more than ten years in the fashion design/sales business, she started applying her tactile, creative experience to mixed media artwork. This new body of work allows her to create graphic modern art with natural items she has always loved.

Using handmade textiles whenever she can, Lisa strives to ethically source the elements and items used in her artwork; many of the items chosen are unused or discarded — she loves being able to give them new purpose and new life.

This is one of her pieces that incorporates feathers, porcupine quills, shark vertebrae and other natural objects…..

This one used an African hand-dyed fabric as the background…..

She and I had a fun conversation about symmetry and asymmetry. You can definitely tell which side of the spectrum she falls on!!

She is also exploring pieces with an absence of color (we would call it low volume)……

I was so enamored with these pieces and wanted to bring them ALL home with me!!!

If you want to learn more, be sure to check out her website.
