Continuing with my series of Inherited UFO’s, we now come to my Mom’s Calendar Houses.
As part of her love for button-hole stitch applique, she made these 12 blocks….

I love the details, like chickens pecking in the yard…

….and the Santa coming down the chimney in this southwestern scene…..

It was fun to find her notes to herself about adding ribbons to the maypole….

Although the blocks are cute, I don’t have any particular desire to finish it off.
I would love to hear your thoughts…..

“Let’s Get Scrappy is about how to decide, not about what to make.”
Let’s Get Scrappy is an on-demand online course that helps quilters overcome decision fatigue and finally make sense of their overflowing scrap bins. With four hours of step-by-step video instruction, you’ll learn simple systems for organizing, piecing, and pressing your scraps—so you can stop overthinking and start sewing beautiful, coordinated quilts with confidence and joy.

Why are you hesitant to finish this project? Would making 12 pillow covers help? Or 12 wall hangings?
Hi Vickie. I think I am hesitant because it is just not ME…at least not right now. If I could figure out some way to spice things up a bit, I would probably be more interest.
I started that same project many, many years ago. Your mom got farther on it than I did. It’s in my stack of UFOs with very low priority. Like you, it just doesn’t resonate with me. That being said, why don’t you just sew it all together since she has all 12 blocks done. Maybe do just one row a week or something.
That is probably the best suggestion…. JUST START IT!! That is always what I tell people who are afraid to try free motion quilting!!
I love that you’re finding your mom’s treasures! Makes me wonder what my kids will be saying when they discover my many UFO’s ! Like, “what was she thinking “or “you’ve got to be kidding”😂😂N
I hadn’t thought about it that way Nancy. Maybe I need to re-double my efforts to clean them out!!
