AQS Paducah – Small Wall Quilts (Hand)

Once again, I don’t really have a folder to put a “hand quilted” quilt into, but there were some great ones this year…..

“Family” by Yoshiyuki Ishizaki

There is SO much going on in this Blue-Ribbon winning quilt. You could stand there for hours and never see it all!!

I loved that the leaves had a checked fabric, but that fabric had been embellished with embroidery so it looked completely different.

“Dance of the Butterfly” by Wilhelmina Vandevoorde

This 2nd-place winning quilt was one of those “OH MY….how did she do that” quilts!!

The hexagons were quilted in the center, giving a very interesting texture…..

…..and the cathedral windows were embellished with seed stitches and small flowers….

…..

“Tangerine Tango” by Jan Frazer

I took SO many photos of this 3rd-place-winning quilt!! I am not sure if I was more enamored with the wonderful applique or the TINY, TINY hand stipple quilting…..

I have to wonder how many hours she spent on this!!

…..

“Summer Solstice” by Nadine Kirk

The subtle colors of this quilt are what called me in!!’

…..

“Eggplant Dream Story” by Mieko Washio

I would never have thought to use an eggplant for inspiration, but she did a marvelous job with it!!

Look at the furry-ness of the crown….

…and the embroidery in the background…..

…..

“Nostalgic Furisode” by Kayoko Hibino

This winner of an Honorable Mention Ribbon, also included some outstanding details in her work….

Tomorrow, we continue with Wall Quilts!! Be sure to come back for more!
