Quilts and Other Stuff from Frances

Planning time….

Do you take time to plan your upcoming quilting?? I am trying to do that but am not having a huge amount of success!!

At our last guild retreat back in May, I spent some time in my “planning/sleeping” swing and came away with some good ideas.

But when reality set in I wasn’t consistent to stick with my plan!!

I can look back and see a number of things that I have finished since that retreat, including four tops for charity….

Quilting on two major projects….

….and made two small quilts from scratch….

And I have been working on two more tops.

Yes, I did accomplish quite a lot in the last four months, but much of it wasn’t in my original plans.

Is that good or bad??? I don’t really know!!!

So how do you do it? Do you plan months in advance or just let things flow as they go??

  1. I can’t tell you how many quilts I’ve planned never got past the planning stage or the first few sessions. I’m more of a “go with the flow” girl. I’m constantly wanting to start that next shiny project.

  2. I told myself that this was the year to finish several quilts for charity that were already at the top stage, and two that were pinned and ready to quilt (on my home machine). So far, 2 tops quilted and one donated, one totally finished for us, and about 5 new ones started! Only the two donations different from last year! Pretty new projects sooo tempting!

  3. Have to say I have a split quilting personality. At times I do have a well thought out plan- and other times, I definitely fly by the seat of my pants.
