Is pottery in my comfort zone?

A few weeks back, I had the opportunity to try pottery. Is it in my comfort zone?

NOT HARDLY!!

It started with my friend Sydney inviting me to a “Pottery Party”, along with several ladies from my church….

I have always wanted to try pottery, so I said, “Let’s do it”!!

This stack of clay balls is a hint at our fun evening…..

Our instructor demonstrated what we were to do…..

And then it was my turn….

No pressure here!!

It took a few tries for me to develop anything that resembled a mug…..

The final “mug” ended up being HUGE!!

….More like a soup bowl!!

The next task was making a bowl and it seemed a bit easier….

Apparently, I am a better bowl-maker than mug-maker!!

This past weekend I received my glazed and fired results…..

Michael bravely tried to use the mug for his espresso, but it defeated him!!

As expected, the bowl is a bit better!!

Now, would I love to try this again…..ABSOLUTELY!! It was a blast to do and I can see the creative potential.

The real question is “Do I have TIME to do this more?”….. DEFINITELY NOT RIGHT NOW!!

Maybe in my future!!

Be sure to come back tomorrow as we start viewing my favorites from the International Quilt Festival!!

  1. Nice to meet you in Houston! I love the colors of the glaze you chose for your pottery creations. Keep trying for symmetry.

  2. You made the perfect breakfast set–a coffee mug and cereal bowl. They have a lot of character. Great job!
My oldest daughter loved pottery. She went to a private school for 1st through 3rd grades where ceramics and pottery were part of the curriculum. She continued making things in middle school, high school, and college. I have lots of her early bowls, and I use them!
