Applique at it’s best…..

There were 16 quilts in the “Applique” category at the International Quilt Festival. I am honored to have been one of them!!

It is s fun to walk up and see your quilt hanging there….

….and to take that wonderful photo standing in front of your creation…..

The First Place Ribbon was given to this wonderful quilt……

“A Rose For Sue – A Tribute” by Joanne Sorrentino, quilted by Rose Bell

Beautiful Applique and quilting makes this quilt deserving of the honor…..

Second place went to…..

“Flowerland” by Sue Nickels

This machine applique is based on one of Sue’s designs.

I can’t say enough about the quilting in the border……

The Third Place Ribbon went to……

“A Few of My Favorite Things” by Judy Faulkner

“Maze of Vines and Roses” by Judy Garden

She designed this quilt from the border IN and let it sit for 5 years to determine what the center was going to look like!!

And, have a good look at this border…..it is insane!!

“To My father” by Sachiko Chiba

The detail in this quilt is outstanding….

“Expansion of the Universe” by Daryl :Leach

And….let’s hit some details there too….

“Flor de Las flores” by Liza Harrison

Loosely, the name translates to “most beautiful flower”, and the inspiration came from the quilter’s flower garden.

That’s it for today. Tomorrow we will see the rest of the applique quilts, including a Harry Potter quilt that will knock your socks off!!
