As I have said before on this blog, I LOVE that quilters are so willing to share their ideas and their tips.
One of my favorite “tipsters” is Deb Messina from quiltblox.com.
She recently wrote two blog posts about “Perfect Piecing Tips,” and they are too good not to share!!
In her first post…..
….she tackles, trimming blocks to size, pressing, misting and sewing machine consistency.
The one thing she mentioned that I hadn’t thought of was to stay-stitch around the outside edge of a top before quilting. I hate it when the outside seams start to come apart as I’m basting the quilt, and this will truly do the trick!
When talking about using a mist spray bottle, she reminisces about her grandmother misting clothes before ironing them.
I was immediately transported to the days of coke bottles with “sprinklers” in them….

PLEASE tell me that some of you remember these!!
But….once again…. I digress!!
In Deb’s second post….

“A FEW MORE PERFECT PIECING TIPS”
….she goes deeper into pressing, both seams and fusible fabrics.
My favorite tip here was using TWO Teflon sheets when working with fusibles. The bottom one protects the ironing surface and the top one protects the iron.
What an amazing idea!!
She also talks about using a thinner (50-weight) thread to piece with. I can’t wait to try that!!
So, if you have a few minutes, check out her two blog posts….they are definitely worth your time!!
