A new way to “hang” a quilt

One of my projects in December was this cute snowman hand-applique…..

….and I really wanted to include him in my “January Blues” decorating scheme.

BUT, I wanted it to sit on the mantle….not hang…..sit!

After placing it on a picture holder and watching it slide down until it was folded in half, I knew that I had to get creative!

I picked through the box recycling until I found one that was the appropriate size, and cut a board roughly the size of the quilt….

Next, I pulled out a leftover binding piece (2.25 inches wide), and cut it to fit the top of the quilt….

Since I didn’t want this to be permanent, I pinned the “sleeve” in place using safety pins….

…..trimmed the board to the correct size…..

….and inserted it into the pocket…..

I was a little concerned that I had over-trimmed the board as it was a bit shorter than the quilt….

But, that worked out perfectly!!

I placed the board on the picture stand, and flipped out the quilt to cover the stand….

Doesn’t it look great…..

…especially with the wooden snowman that my Son and Daughter-In-Law gave me for Christmas!

I LOVE when a solution is as simple as a few pins, a scrap of fabric, and an old piece of cardboard!

Do you have other methods? I would love to hear!
