My Great-Aunt Lucille was an artist, and I am fortunate to have inherited a number of her paintings from my mother.
As I searched, I found several photos of Lucille….

Don’t you LOVE the hat and the gloves!!
But, I digress.
Aunt Lucille painted in the age of BIG FRAMES!! This is a very large painting that hung above my parents’ couch for 50 years and was always a favorite….

It is currently hanging in my office!
There were also four small pieces that I took from Mom’s house over 10 years ago. They have languished under a bed since then….

There is obviously one more, but I had already unframed it when the photo was taken.
The paintings are 4″ x 10″ and the frames made them much, much larger.
I decided that I wanted to use them in my house, but wanted them framed smaller. Enter AMAZON.
I found four inexpensive black frames and purchased them immediately.
I removed the canvas from the first frame and laughed at the number of staples they had used to hold it in place….

I placed it in the black frame….

… and, while it was fine, I really wanted the frames to be brown.
So….out to the garage, where I found a small bottle of craft paint….

I first roughed up the frame with a sanding block….

…cleaned off the dust….

…and started applying the paint….

I didn’t want it to be solid brown, so I started with a sea sponge applicator but quickly moved to a brush…

The paint took the “edge” off the black, and gave the finish I desired….’

They are all now reframed…..

….and put into use in my decorating….

I am always amazed at what can be done with a “can-do” attitude and a little bit of paint!!
