AQS Paducah – Group Quilts

Like the hand-quilted quilts, most of these are from Japan.

Obviously, Japanese quilters make a point of working together on projects. Maybe we should do more of that ourselves!!

“Quilt Village” by Kimi & 4 friends”

This Blue Ribbon winner has so much detail!! I could have spent several hours looking at it, and still not have seen it all!

Each of the hanging quilts was exquisite, and I LOVED the trapunto sheep and Yo-Yo flowers…..

Happy Day” by Toshiko & 9 friends

This quilt won the 3rd place ribbon. I found it interesting because I couldn’t figure out how it was done as a group quilt. Many are done in blocks or sections, so it is easy to see how it would have been split up, but not this one!!

However they did it, it was WELL DONE!!

“Spring Milky Way” by Mutsuko & 6 friends

Just look at the detail…..

“Juneberry Swaying in the Wind” by Mayumi & 9 friends”

This one is very similar to the previous one and makes me think about how much fun it would be to pick a block design and assign colors to create a great rainbow pattern.

Maybe this would be a good guild project??

“Olive Groves in Italy” by Sachiko & 12 friends

Although there is nothing amazingly creative about this quilt, it is AMAZING that 13 different people could piece these blocks and have them all come out the same size!!

I hadn’t noticed the oval “OLIVE” quilting until now. Such a fun idea!!

“Mermaid Lagoon” by Rie & 8 friends

My favorite thing about this quilt are the clam shells used on the mermaid.

Tomorrow, we will move on to some of the Wall Quilts…..stay tuned!
