Trash Mandalas

One of my favorite bloggers is Andrea of ARHtistic License…..

She put me onto a blog called Moss & Fog…..

….and I subscribed so I would receive an email with every post.

Now, sometimes they post several times each day, and sometimes I get tired of them, but occasionally, they post something that catches my eye, such as this architectural illusion…..

A few weeks ago, they sent an email with the heading….”Trash Mandalas”..

OKAY, you have my attention!!

This was their text…..

We’re enamored with the collections of mandalas created of gathered trash and other discarded items by artist William KW. The Swedish artist has a knack for creating symmetrical pieces that feel intricate and charming. One person’s trash is another’s treasure, yes?

Here are a few of his pieces……

Now, do I consider them to be true mandalas? Probably not.

However, they are an interesting take on using recycled goods in art.

Sounds a lot like scrap quilting, doesn’t it??

If you want to see more of his work, check out his Instagram account.

Thanks for humoring me on my obsession with Mandalas!!

A SUPER Easy Finish!!

I always expect the quilted Mandalas to be hard. They LOOK like they would be hard to quilt.

But the truth is…..

they are really easy!

The reason is that you are not quilting the entire design at once. You are just quilting one small section at a time, which means that, before you know it, the design is finished!

Check out the video to see just how easy Mandala #9 was to quilt……

I am very happy with this one……

….I just wish I had used a different thread color so that the quilting would have stood out more!

We will spend a few weeks quilting on my latest scrap quilt and then tackle Mandala #10. Believe it or not, I already have it planned!

SOOOO Happy With Mandala Number 8!!

As I said last week, I struggle with each one of the mandalas, wondering if I will like it in the end.

This one turned out better than I could have EVER hoped!!

I have yet to feel confident when I am starting these mandalas, always wondering if they are going to turn out okay. Maybe I should start believing in myself and the fact that I CAN do them!!

Isn’t this a wonderful start…..

Now if I can just figure out how to finish it up!! Come back next Friday!!

Putting Mandala #7 in the finished column!!
