Lemon Block….very pretty!!

Today I get to share my February 2021 Monthly Color Challenge block. This is the second block in the Quilt-A-Long series being hosted by Patterns By Jen. If you are interested in joining us, please check it out on Jen’s blog.

If this is your first time visiting my blog, I want to welcome you and thank you for stopping by. I hope that you will stick around and check out some of the other pages (tabs at the top), including my favorite scrap quilts, Quilts of Valor, Travel Log Quilts, and some of my FAVORITE tools. I also have a pattern to give away when you sign up for my mailing list…..

On a personal note, I have been quilting for over 35 years and love every aspect of the art. My greatest joy is in providing inspiration and techniques that help others to make the quilts that they want to make.

This is the first year that I have participated in Jen’s Monthly Color Challenge and I am super excited about the prospect. In addition to a wonderful challenge, Jen has also put together amazing sponsors for the first three months. Be sure to check them out…..

NOW….on to the block!!!

I have a friend who has a lemon tree in his yard and one of his greatest joys is to present a freshly picked lemon to anyone needing a bit of a boost. So, when I started thinking about this block I immediately started smiling, and as the fragrance of the cut lemon infiltrated my studio, my mood lifted even more…..

I stroked my yellow fabrics and quickly found two that said “Lemon” to me…..

I am making the 6-inch version of the blocks and ran into a problem when I finished sewing the FORTY-EIGHT seams in this block…..it was WAY too small!! I spent a fair amount of time figuring out what I needed to change to get my seam allowances exactly right (come back on Thursday for that saga), but in the end, I was SO pleased with this block.

Interestingly, even though I made this block TWICE, I didn’t see the lemon slices until I put it out to photograph!!

Didn’t my husband do a great job in picking out a photogenic lemon!!!

Now, when I think about eating lemons, I immediately think of a dish that my husband, Michael, loves to cook. It is from Giada DeLaurentis and is a magnificent mixture of Penne pasta with chicken and a lemon cream sauce…..SO yummy!! You can find the recipe here…..

Also, be sure to check out the other bloggers presenting this fun Lemon block…..

  1. Love your post and your block, especially that lighter fabric. I’ll heed your warning and make sure I get the seams right – I sometimes have an issue with that! Your husband did a good job. 😀
