Quilts and Other Stuff from Frances

And the Winner is…

As I write this post, I am waiting to head to the airport after enjoying 4 days at the International Quilt Festival in Houston. As you might imagine, the quilts were AMAZING and my mind is completely overwhelmed with ideas!!

Over the next week or so, I will show a BUNCH of quilts, so stay tuned!!

Today, I want to start with the WINNERS….well at least one of them!!!!

The Grand Prize-winning quilt was made by Andrea Petrocelli and contained a whopping 226,576 pieces!!!

It is a challenging quilt to photograph but here is my best…..

“Beyond Reason”

Now you are probably looking at that and wondering WHAT is so special about it!!

WELL…..every one of those squares is 1-inch and contains 49 pieces!!!

We had a few minutes to talk to Andrea…..

….and asked her WHY? She said that the Ripley world record for number of pieces was currently 180,000 (approximately) and she decided that she wanted to do more!! She did say that the other quilt was hand-pieced and that she had to give the maker kudos for that!!

She worked on the quilt for 3 years and put approximately 6,000 hours into it!!

What you can’t see in the photos are tons of colors within most squares…..

As I said, it was HARD to photograph!!! Maybe you can see it in this photo…..

This was the very first quilt that we saw and it was just the tip of the iceberg!! Come back for the rest of the winners tomorrow.

WOW…..if I only post about 1 quilt each day, I will still be showing them up to the 2023 show!!!
