I now had all of the Dresden Plates made, and had a general idea of where they were going to be placed on the quilt…..

Now let me digress for just a moment….surprising I know!!
At our November guild meeting, we were enthralled with the works of Kathleen Rountree, and I will do a entire post about her shortly, but the thing that was so amazing was her grid quilting…..

You know that I have played with grids all thru 2023 and now it was time to use some of them in the sky area above the flowers.
But which ones should I pick??
I did a test piece to help me decide!!
Kathleen had talked about using two battings, with a wool on the top so I decided to use her suggestions. I used a polyester on the bottom and wool on top…..

I used my grid ruler (Sue’s Gridliner)…….

…..to draw a 1/2-inch grid on the top…..

And, then I started quilting!!!
……. Two different sizes of Orange Peels…..

…….Clam Shells, both plain and filled…..

…..Braids and plaids…..

……Lanterns…..

…..Circles…..

And finally, some diagonal diamonds…..

How great does this all look??

So….it is time to choose?
Which one do you like???
I eventually did pick one and tomorrow I will share the quilting process with you…..
