I have now finished the first scrap quilt that I made as part of my “Summer of the Scraps”…….

That meant that it was time to move on to the second quilt I had planned. To remind you, I started working on this quilt at my guild retreat back in May, leaving it at this stage…..

Now it was time to get down to business and do some serious scrapping!!
Following Scrapping Principle #1……

…..I took a good look at one of the two blocks……

…..and broke it down into the smallest units possible…..

Looks like it is time to start piecing two-patches.
For the first 20, I would pick out one patch from the box of scraps…..

and slowly try to find another one to go with it…..

Okay…..that looks great but it took forever to make TWO decisions.
How could I make it faster?
Make fewer decisions!!
What if I put one stack of squares next to the scrap box…..

…and vow to ALWAYS use the one that was on top!
Then, I just have to pick one fabric from the box…..

SO much faster and easier!!
My only other rule was that, unless the two fabrics were exactly the same, I would put them together. Even these two patches…….

I had so much fun piecing these building blocks and watching them grow into a quilt top.
Come back for more!!
AND….just a reminder…..keep August 15th thru 18th free for the….

The Summit features 21 fabulous teachers and is completely free to attend!!
Registration starts August 1st. Details will be posted here!!
.
Lovely finish on the first quilt. I can’t wait to see what you do with the second.
Thanks Andrea. I had fun with it!!
Much faster and it definitely works. Good luck.
I was really surprised how much difference it made in the piecing.
