One of my favorite categories (at any show) are the pieced quilts. Piecing has been and is near and dear to my heart!!
I highlighted 32 quilts in this category so we will spend 4 days looking at them.
GET READY TO BE AMAZED!!
Let’s start with the big winners…..
Frist Place went to….

The artist statement says “Tunnel Vision is an explosion of color, texture and dimension. It is easy to get drawn in!”
Yes it is!! The center section is not only intricately pieced, but the quilting adds so much dimension and interest…..

The corners and borders continue that trend….

Second Place was lots of curved line piecing…

She says….”Juicy fruits on a plate and refreshing drinks are what you need on a hot summer day”
Once again, look at the quilting here….

This exquisite “English Paper Pieced” quilt was award the 3rd place ribbon…

She began the quilt in 2001 and picked it up again during the Covid “stay-at-home” restrictions
You will not truly appreciate this quilt until you get closer and see the fun embroideries that are scattered over it’s surface…..

There are over 12,000 1 cm (.4 inch) hexagons!!
This quilt was awarded one of the three “Judges Choice” awards….

Her quilt is designed to embody the resilience of the Ukrainian people, and contains Ukrainian folk motifs.
The perfection of the blocks is amazing…..

….as are the motifs….

Other quilts of interest in this category included….

We met Barbara and enjoyed talking to her about her quilts….

That’s right…. I said QUILTS….plural. She also had this one displayed….

I loved her artist statement for this one….. “I hand painted and discharged fabrics for this project in order to build a pallet of diverse patterns in similar colors and BECAUSE IT’S FUN”
I LOVE those last three words!!
The quilting on both quilts was exquisite…

Next is this pink and green delight…..

The piecing is hand sewn “English Paper Piecing” and it took approximately 2,000 hours to make. Her daughter used her skills as a machine quilter to finish the project.
Final one for today is…..

As with all the quilts before this one, the machine quilting adds so much to the design…..

Come back tomorrow for more from the Pieced Category at IQF…..
