Every time I have been involved in a judging experience, the judge thumbs a bound corner and says, “binding needs to be sewn shut”.
When I am machine binding a quilt, I always stitch into the corner and then travel over those same stitches to come out again.
THEN I SAW THIS…..
As I was scrolling through YouTube shorts, I came across this “How To Apply Binding” video from “The Sewing Channel”….
I wasn’t particularly interested in the actual process of applying the binding, but I was stunned when I saw this picture…..

WHAT A GREAT IDEA…..
Instead of traveling OVER the previous stitching, stitch up one side and back down the next!!
Now I need to finish a project so that I can try this great technique!!

“Let’s Get Scrappy is about how to decide, not about what to make.”
Let’s Get Scrappy is an on-demand online course that helps quilters overcome decision fatigue and finally make sense of their overflowing scrap bins. With four hours of step-by-step video instruction, you’ll learn simple systems for organizing, piecing, and pressing your scraps—so you can stop overthinking and start sewing beautiful, coordinated quilts with confidence and joy.

I follow Tracy on The Sewing Channel and also saw this short video recently. I tried it on a small project and a baby quilt. It works wonderfully! A great tip!
Thanks Karen. I am so glad to have a “Personal Testimony” that it worked. I can’t wait to try it!!
I’ve never seen this before. I’m going to watch the video.
I think that it is such a good idea. I can’t wait to try it!!
