Closing the binding….

Every time I have been involved in a judging experience, the judge thumbs a bound corner and says, “binding needs to be sewn shut”.

When I am machine binding a quilt, I always stitch into the corner and then travel over those same stitches to come out again.

THEN I SAW THIS…..

As I was scrolling through YouTube shorts, I came across this “How To Apply Binding” video from “The Sewing Channel”….

I wasn’t particularly interested in the actual process of applying the binding, but I was stunned when I saw this picture…..

WHAT A GREAT IDEA…..

Instead of traveling OVER the previous stitching, stitch up one side and back down the next!!

Now I need to finish a project so that I can try this great technique!!

I HATE Binding

When asked about my favorite part of quilting, my answer is always “anything but the binding”, and alternately, if asked about my least favorite part of quilting the answer is “BINDING”!!

Over the years, I have tried to find ways to make the process easier and used all of my tricks to finish up the Orange & Green charity quilt that I have been working on for the last few months…..

I am excited that this quilt is finished, but I have loved all of the different techniques that I was able to try in it…..

Now to find something else to quilt!!

Let’s bind by machine!!

I have a love/hate relationship with binding a quilt.

Yes, it means that the quilt is ALMOST finished which I LOVE but I absolutely hate the physical sewing on of the binding…..

….which is why I have developed a method for machine binding that looks great, gives wonderful mitered corners and is easy to do!!!

I have divided the process into two videos….part one today and part two tomorrow…..

ENJOY…..

Come back tomorrow to see this quilt FINISHED!!!!
