Meet the Early Bird Quilters

This past week, I had the privilege of speaking to the Early Bird Quilters in Conyers, Georgia!!

I love to speak, but really enjoy being part of a meeting and learning what each guild does differently. The Early Birders had some great ideas!!

They enjoy refreshments before the meeting, but instead of standing around, balancing a plate and cup, they sit down at tables and have a chance to really catch up…..

Debbie made these fun table decorations…..

….and I got to bring 2 of them home!! The others were gifted to members.

They discussed charitable projects at length, deciding what they want to get involved with next. Isn’t that just what quilters do!!

I enjoyed presenting my FAVORITE talk….

…and it was rewarding to see the members looking carefully at the quilts afterward….

but, the most excitement for me was when members came up to me, exclaiming that they had an “epiphany” about using one of their inspirations to turn into a quilt.

THAT IS WHAT IT IS ALL ABOUT!!

As usual, I thoroughly enjoyed Show-And-Tell. Sadly, I didn’t get names of many of the quilters, but they were all proudly showing off their treasures….

I LOVE this sampler quilt…..

….and this use of a panel…..

Their last workshop was making jackets, and the showing was outstanding…..

My friend Gwen (I have judged with her before) showed a great jelly-roll race….’

(It makes so much difference when you miter the seams!!

She also had this great Christmas tree rag quilt, and we all debated about which should be the front…..

This quilt was started by her Mother back in the 70’s, but the maker enjoyed finishing it up…..

Her mother had only worked on one block and it was included as the label…..

This is Diane displaying her paper-pieced Poinsettias…

She had the BEST quote about paper piecing….

You have to take your brain out and put it in backwards to do paper piecing.

Isn’t THAT the truth!!

As usual, I drove home encouraged and excited to know what this wonderful guild is doing!!

One of my favorite things about quilting is motivating others and helping them in their quilting journey. As part of this endeavor, I LOVE to present programs and workshops to groups and guilds around the world. All of my programs work well with Zoom meetings, and I would love to speak to your group.
