Quilts and Other Stuff from Frances

Workshops & Programs

One of my favorite things in quilting is sharing my knowledge and excitement with others.
These are the programs and workshops that are available...

Viewing the World
Thru
Quilt Colored Glasses

Let’s travel across five continents looking at how we, as quilters, view the world.  We will talk about  the places where we gain inspiration, whether it be as exotic as a palace in India, or as mundane as a high school dance in Georgia. Finally, we will explore methods and ideas for turning those inspirations into wonderful quilts.

The Challenge of Challenges

I once heard it said that “a quilter should NEVER participate in a challenge because it places too many parameters on the design”.  In this talk, I show the importance of taking part in “Challenges” and how they can push us forward along our creative journey.

Beginning Machine Quilting Workshop

In this one-day workshop we will explore the joys of using a home sewing machine to quilt your beautiful tops.  We begin the day with information about setting up your machine and about the importance of basting.  We then practice quilting using the Walking foot for straight lines, quickly progressing to the elusive free motion quilting using a darning foot.   In the afternoon, we will continue to practice (either on a piece of muslin or on a quilt top of your choice).  Along the way, we will talk about threads, needles, marking and the process of selecting designs for your quilts.

Basic sewing supplies are needed, including a walking foot and darning foot (free-motion foot) for your machine.  There will also be some advance preparation prior to the workshop.

Duration: 6 hours

MOVE IT!!!....a Free-Motion Quilting Bootcamp

If you are like me, you know the basics of Free-Motion Quilting, but have grown bored with the same four or five designs that you use OVER and OVER and OVER again.

In this one day workshop, we will explore at least 15 NEW designs for you to master, starting with simple line designs and moving into more complex designs.

Basic sewing supplies are needed, including a darning foot (free-motion foot) for your machine.  You will also prepare a quilt sandwich prior to the workshop.

Duration: 6 hours
