Meet Barbara Rainwater

As I was walking around the room at the “Early Bird Quilters” meeting, I started looking at their upcoming workshop, seeing this quilt hanging on the wall…..

I instantly KNEW that quilt from the shows that I have been to, so I turned around and started talking to the maker.

Meet Barbara Rainwater….

She is a self-proclaimed MANIAC when it comes to creative endeavors….from making gorgeous collage-style quilts to painting and decorating bottles, turning them into works of art!!

These two were from earlier in her quilting career…..

I apologize for the light streaks on many of these photos. There was a big window by her display, making it hard to get decent photos!!!

This quilt was made for a Hoffman fabric challenge….the challenging fabric being the upper background…..

It is a sweet quilt, and I adore the 3-D things that she has added to it…..

Isn’t he perfect?

Many of her quilts are made from emotions that she is experiencing, as this quilt made while she was grieving the death of her 51-year old daughter…..

Again…..ignore the light streak!!

I thought that this quilt was magnificent….

It is the story of Barbara’s life, including vignettes from places that she has lived.

Each of these is so special…..

Be sure to notice the “borders” around each block. They were the perfect way to separate the special blocks from the rest of the quilt, without distracting from the overall design. Have another look….

She even put together fabric boards to help participants pick their fabrics, based on the feeling that was evoked…..

When Barbara was describing her upcoming workshop these are the phrases she used….

  • Have Fun
  • Listen to Music
  • Let the Fabric Talk to You
  • Throw It Around

DOESN’T THAT SOUND LIKE FUN?

I was honestly very tempted to join the guild just so I could attend the class!!

Thank you Barbara, for sharing your work with us!!!

One of my favorite things about quilting is motivating others and helping them in their quilting journey. As part of this endeavor, I LOVE to present programs and workshops to groups and guilds around the world. All of my programs work well with Zoom meetings, and I would love to speak to your group.
