Have you ever heard of a “Stepwell”? They are found primarily in India and serve three purposes….
Water storage: Stepwells were built to collect and store rainwater during monsoons for use during the dry season.
Water access: They provide a way to access the water table, which could be very deep underground in arid regions.
Community hub: Their elaborate design made them important social and ceremonial centers, sometimes housing as many as 100 steps to reach the bottom.
