As you know, I’ve been sorting, cutting, and processing my scraps for the past three weeks.
And now I’m finished!!
I’ve dealt with every one of those miscellaneous piles and bags of leftover fabric, and this is what I ended up with.
Boxes and bins. Lots of boxes and bins.
BOXES of 2.5-inch strips……
BINS of 2.5-inch squares…..
Drawers of other fabrics, including 1.5-inch strips and 2-inch strips!!
But now, instead of a jumble of scraps waiting for me to figure out what to do with them, they are ready to use.
And THAT is the part that makes me happy.
When I’m ready to make a scrap quilt, I don’t have to start by sorting, pressing, and cutting. I can open a box, pull out what I need, and start sewing.
Of course, looking at all these boxes makes one thing perfectly clear…
I have a LOT of scraps.

Bonnie Hunter’s Free Pattern page (or this year’s mystery quilt in November) could easily take care of most of those — probably all in one project, LOL! One way to immediately clear out those 2-1/2″ strips is to make either Bonnie Hunter’s “Scrappy Bargello” (if you already have an idea of how big a quilt you want) or her “Scrappy Trips” (make blocks, decide quilt size later). I’ve had a box of “need to be processed” scraps sitting in my quilt space all summer, so seeing this is another nudge to get it in gear and process them!
I LOVE Bonnie Hunter’s free patterns and have used many of them. I have yet to do a mystery quilt…mostly because I am flat out that time of year getting ready for tax season. BUT, THIS is my last tax season, so maybe next year!!!
