A Little Bit of Inspiration….

I have realized that I am worried about the quilting on the Quilt-of-Valor that my friend, Marnie, and I are making.

I am worried that I don’t have a good inspiration for the quilting and that I am going to MESS IT UP ROYALLY!!

Well, last week I showed you my idea for quilting flags in the top and bottom border and that got me to thinking about STARS and STRIPES,

And, just like that, an inspiration was born!!

I love how these alternating blocks are looking….

…and now I can’t wait to get to Saturday so that I can spend a whole day working on it!!

What “sparks” of inspiration have moved you forward in your quilting?

“No-mark” Marking

I found a pantograph of a flag and wanted to use the same idea to quilt in a border on an upcoming Quilt-of-Valor.

I played with the design some and came up with this…..

But, how will I quilt it?

Will I try to quilt it completely free-hand, with a few markings or draw it out complete?

I finally decided to try using Golden Threads Quilting Paper…..

Have a watch to see if it worked…..

I LOVE how it turned out……

But, even though I like it, I am not sure that I want to use it for an entire border.

Maybe I can devise a few guidelines that I can mark and quilt it more freehand.

How would you quilt it?

Do you swoop?

We all know that you are supposed to pull the bobbin thread up to the top of your sandwich before you start quilting.

But, sometimes that can get a bit messy!!

Check out my solution of doing the SWOOP…..

Isn’t that a super easy way to pull the bobbin thread up?

AND…it doesn’t require ANY special tools!!

Scrappy Quilting

This past week, I worked on a banner that will be used for my upcoming online class called “Let’s Get Scrappy”.

I had a great time making it, and especially loved pulling some leftovers out of my HUGE box of orphaned blocks!!

Once the top was finished, I started thinking about how to quilt it……

I love the “FAUX” border and think that it frames the center perfectly.

Now to start filming the class!!
