Meet the Electric City Quilters

This past week, I got to meet the quilters of the Electric City Guild in Anderson, South Carolina……

While the numbers were small, the wonderful work of this guild came thru.

As with most meetings, there was a “free” table……

….. but with a difference. Here they make donations that are given to other charitable projects.

“Show and Tell” time was fun, with everything from tiny bowls made of English-Paper-Pieced hexagons…..

….to charity quilt tops made by a 94-year old woman and sent to the guild for finishing…..

There were cell-phone carriers…..

…..and three charity quilts made by one woman…..

Here is a better photo of them…..

I learned something exciting from these quilts and their maker, Connie. Look at her binding. It is perfect on the front……

….AND on the back….

I questioned her about her technique, and she shared the process. I tried it on my last scrap quilt and found that it worked well, but I still need to practice some more.

Once I have it mastered, I will share here!!

I learned that the Electric City Guild, in conjunction with another local guild (Prickly Fingers Quilt Guild), puts on a quilt show every two years. The last one was in July and this was the Best of Show…..

….made by the aforementioned Connie!!

I have already made a note in my calendar to look for this show in 2026. I will NOT miss it!!

THANK YOU ELECTRIC CITY QUILTERS!!

One of my favorite things about quilting is motivating others and helping them in their quilting journey. As part of this endeavor, I LOVE to present programs and workshops to groups and guilds around the world. All of my programs work well with Zoom meetings, and I would love to speak to your group.

A Visit with the Etowah Valley Quilters

As I have mentioned previously, one of my favorite things to do is to speak to guilds about the wonderful art of quilting.

I had another opportunity this past week, traveling to Cartersville, GA to speak to the Etowah Valley Quilt Guild

It was fun to enter the room and see this…..

They were signing people up for the November workshop…..

This looks like so much fun…..maybe I need to join so that I can attend??

Like in many of our groups, they had a “please take it” table, covered in fabrics and patterns that were available for anyone to enjoy.

They are planning to have tee-shirts for the guild and I thought this was a wonderful idea….

The group is highly active in charitable work and the members make quilts for Vietnam Veterans. They read a very touching letter of thanks from one recipient.

I was having to pack up during Show and Tell so didn’t get to see a lot of it, but I did enjoy these three quilts made using the same pattern…..

The pattern is “Tumbling Triangles” by Deb Tucker…..

I don’t think that you can go wrong with one of her patterns!!

I thoroughly enjoyed presenting my favorite talk…..”Viewing the World Thru Quilt Colored Glasses”.

There were 60+ members in attendance. They were interactive, and fun, and made my visit thoroughly enjoyable.

Thanks for having me!!!

Aren’t Quilters Fun People??

One of my VERY favorite things is to talk to guild’s about quilting.

This past week, I had the privilege of visiting with the “Spirited Quilters Guild” in Duluth, Georgia…..

Aren’t they a great group!!

I had so much fun presenting my talk….”The Challenge of Challenges” and they were super interactive and fun to speak to.

Prior to the meeting, a number of the members meet for dinner at a local Mexican Food Restaurant and I was invited to join in. I opened the door and espied a group of women at one table. When one looked up, I mouthed “quilters” and they all smiled and invited me over!! It was a sweet start to a lovely evening.

The guild is extremely busy and involved in many charity projects including “Quilts for Kids” and “Quilts of Valor”, and have just agreed to make 100 pillowcases for the Children’s Hospital of Atlanta!!

As usual, my favorite part of the evening was Show and Tell. Here are few…..

I am sorry that I don’t have the names of the makers and there were a bunch of others that I didn’t get photos of, but this gives you a good idea of the quality of their work.

I drove home with a smile on my face, remembering the kind words and sweet women that I had just met.

Thank you “Spirited Quilters”!!

Changes Galore!!!

If you have been reading this blog for very long, you may have noticed a few changes…..

I have been reworking the website, with a goal to make the blog cleaner, more readable, and to present more information on additional pages.

So, I invite you have a look around….stroll thru the pages…. and see if you find anything that interests you!!! The Menu bar is just above the Post Title…..

As you peruse the pages, please let me know if you see changes that need to be made!!! There is nothing worse than having misspelled words or broken links. Thanks in advance!!

Now I am going to resort to……

If you are a member of a guild who might enjoy a Zoom meeting program, please keep me in mind as a speaker. There are three programs that I can present virtually……

  • Viewing the World Thru Quilt Colored Glasses
  • Photos — Out of the Scrapbook and Onto the Quilt
  • Size Matters — At Least Where Quilts are Concerned

All of these are Powerpoint based and contain TONS of photos and other information.

….and I would LOVE to meet you and your fellow members!!!!

Okay….self-promotion over…..tomorrow we are back to “Quilts and Other Stuff”!!
