Celebrating the African American Quilt Circle

There was a special exhibit at QuiltCon…..

Let’s enjoy their quilts……

“Pick Up Sticks” by Marjorie Barner

I have always wanted to make an inset strip block….have you tried one??

I love the vibrancy of this next quilt…..

“Squares” by Andrea Carter
.

….and this one as well…..

“Ray of Gold” by Willa Brigham

Her comment about this quilt was that it reminded her of the Gee’s Bend quilts…..stitching from necessity and then for fun!

I love how the bright yellow and orange border increase the peaceful feel of the center….

“Serenity” by Nancy Cash

I love the colors and the Molas in this one….

“Honoring Their Stitches” by Shirley Bullock

Next…..

“Modern Art Museum” by Julendia Galliard

She says that each of the squares represents a unique framed picture in a museum!!

In this quilt, the maker says that she took a pattern past the written instructions and make it hers!!

“Mod & Primary” by Melanie Dantzler

And last…..

“Heavenly Starburst” by Ida Couch

I think we can all agree that these ladies had MAGNIFICENT color sense in their quilts!!

Well, only three categories to go…. Small Quilts, Scrappy Challenge, and Negative Space…..

We will get started on those on Monday!!
