I HATE Binding

When asked about my favorite part of quilting, my answer is always “anything but the binding”, and alternately, if asked about my least favorite part of quilting the answer is “BINDING”!!

Over the years, I have tried to find ways to make the process easier and used all of my tricks to finish up the Orange & Green charity quilt that I have been working on for the last few months…..

I am excited that this quilt is finished, but I have loved all of the different techniques that I was able to try in it…..

Now to find something else to quilt!!

  1. Hello from New Zealand.
I have always liked doing the bindings as it is a feeling of accomplishment. Some I do just the single colour matching that is machine sewn on & then hand stitched closed but my favourite is when I get to do a Flange binding. It is so eady to do & machine sewn down which hasten the finish of the quit.
I love it when the accent colour lights up the binding to give that extra spark if colour to show off the binding.
I followed the tutorial done by Donna Jordan. I can highly recommend it.
Certainly makes finishing a quilt a lot quicker.
    Love your posts.

    1. I think that by the time I get to the binding, I am ready to be finished with the quilt and frustrated that I am not!! I have recently done a flanged binding and loved how it looked!! I want to do a video about them sometime in the future. I will check out Donna Jordan’s video too. My husband and I spent 6 years in Canberra. Australia but never made it to New Zealand….except for the airport!! We want to go there someday!!

  2. I too have sewn my binding beyond the quarter inch mark and pulled out a stitch or two when coming to the corner. What I haven’t done was pull out the stitches when sewing after I turned the binding and sewed the next side. What a difference that made. I also made a binding template to assist in making the turn. I’ll continue to use both tips from now on. Thank you.

    1. Hi Marcia. Don’t you find that it is easier to pull a few stitches rather than attempt to meet both starting points at exactly the 1/4″ mark? I am glad that the other tips helped you too!!
