Still saying Thank You!!

Today marks the 17th anniversary of my little corner of the internet—this blog that began with so much uncertainty and has grown into something far richer than I ever imagined. When I wrote my first post all those years ago, I admit that I wasn’t sure I would enjoy blogging, wasn’t sure I’d have the time for it, and certainly wasn’t sure that anyone would care enough to read along. Seventeen years later, I can say with complete confidence that all three of those worries were wonderfully unfounded.

What started as a “let’s see if I can stick with this” experiment has become a creative journal of my quilting life. It has documented hundreds of projects, dozens of ideas, so many travels, and more than a few detours along the way. I love scrolling back through old posts and finding the breadcrumbs of inspiration—those moments when a quilt was just a glimmer of an idea, when a fabric pull made my heart flutter, or when a “quick project” became anything but quick.

One of the first quilts that I shared on my blog!

Back in that first year, I wrote about how blogging helped me focus my quilting energies. That is still true. Even now, when I’m working in my studio, or walking along a street in Glasgow, there’s always a little voice in the back of my mind asking, “How will I share this? What story can I tell?” This blog has gently nudged me to stay curious, to keep trying new things, and to celebrate the process as much as the finish.

But the greatest joy—then and now—has been the people.

Quilt given to a reader to celebrate my 100th blog post

Seventeen years ago, I was thrilled (and slightly bewildered) when a comment arrived in French. Today, that sense of connection is still what keeps me writing. You have cheered for my victories, commiserated over my seam-ripping sessions, asked thoughtful questions, shared your own quilts and stories, and made me feel part of a worldwide circle of makers and friends.

I have been taught, encouraged, inspired, challenged, and—most importantly—reminded again and again that creativity is better when it’s shared.

My “MOST READ” post

This blog has also been the launching pad for so much more than I ever expected:
teaching, courses, YouTube videos, patterns, mandalas, scrap adventures, Travel-Log quilts, and endless experiments. If I trace the thread backward, nearly every big quilting venture in my life started with a simple blog post and the thought, “Maybe I should share this.”

Of course, the years haven’t all been smooth stitching. There have been dry spells (like now), busy seasons, tech frustrations, and moments when I wondered whether I still had anything worth writing. But every time I returned, you were here—and that made all the difference.

So today, just like on my first anniversary post, I end with the simplest and truest words:

Thank you for reading.
Thank you for commenting.
Thank you for cheering, questioning, laughing, learning, and encouraging.
Thank you for keeping this creative space alive for seventeen years.

Here’s to year eighteen—
more quilts, more stories, more experiments, more inspiration,
and more shared stitching along the way.
