A Little Rusted

While cleaning out my UFO box, I was surprised to find two pieces that I had completely forgotten about. And, since I haven’t started on them, I am not sure that I can even call them a UFO!

But first, a backstory….

My friend Anita had a business dyeing fabrics and selling at shows. Her husband, Bill, became interested in using RUST to dye fabrics.

Back in 2009, I asked him to use items that resembled the center of a Sunflower. He gave me a wonderful piece that I quilted details on……

“Sunflowers in the Rust”

It was displayed at a regional show, and I was contacted and asked to sell the quilt. I agreed.

Now, I needed another sunflower quilt for myself. Bill came to the rescue again, and this quilt was born…

“Terracotta Flowers”

I had so much fun quilting the doily!!

At some point, they shared two other pieces with me…. another pot of flowers….

…..and a mish-mash of other designs….

I can probably figure out the flower vase, but do you have suggestions for this other piece?

Inquiring minds want to know!!

Personal Retreat, here I come

Last Sunday, I wrote about my decision not to go to Quilt Con this year but instead to have a “personal” retreat in my studio.

We returned from our Nashville trip on Friday, arriving home around noon. By 2:00 pm, we had unpacked, and it was time for my retreat to start.

But then I saw this on my covered deck….

….and made the perfect decision that the first step was to have a NAP!!

After enjoying an hour on the deck, I caught sight of the Daffodils blooming behind me….

I always love it when they bloom because it means that Spring isn’t far behind….

So…those two “tasks” behind me, I had a look at my “to-do on retreat” list….

The first thing on the list was to catch up on my guild’s “Block of the Month” challenge,

I took a look at the suggested blocks for February…..

….selected three that I wanted to make, and headed upstairs!!

Stay Tuned…. there is MORE to come!!

I can’t wait to tell you more about our 2026 Guild “Block of the Month” challenge.

Another UFO from Mom

You guys have given me such good ideas for what to do with my Mom’s UFO’s, and I am very thankful for that advice.

PLEASE keep it up!

This next one is a series of blocks made by Mom’s friends. If I remember correctly, she won them in a block swap…

I giggled at the address labels used to identify the makers…

While I recognize one of the names, I didn’t know any of these women personally.

SO….. I am going to hand these blocks off to my Guild Charity Group. They do miraculous things with blocks like these.

THERE…..

DECISION MADE!!

Now, on to the next UFO…..

Quilt Con Retreat

According to my calendar, I should be at Quilt Con right now!!

Michael had a conference in Nashville this week, and I needed to attend to help with photography and recording.

We had planned to come back on Friday, and then I was leaving EARLY Saturday morning to drive 6 hours to Raleigh for Quilt Con.

I figured I could spend a few hours on Saturday, return Sunday morning for a few more hours, and then drive home that afternoon.

But going into this week, I realized I was already tired and would return completely EXHAUSTED… not a good idea…

ESPECIALLY since it is still tax season!!

SO, I decided to stay home this weekend and spend a lot of time in my studio.

No, I won’t get much CPA work done, but it will be relaxing, and I will arrive on Monday morning refreshed and ready to work.

It has been a hard decision, but I remember how exhaustion affected my creativity last year, and I do NOT want to repeat that scenario!!

…..

Stay tuned for stories from my Q-C Retreat!!!

Another Brit-com quilt

A few weeks ago, I posted a photo of a quilt from one of our favorite “Brit-Coms”, Father Brown…..

One of my readers, Nonie, commented that she had made a quilt based on a quilt from another Brit-Com, “As Time Goes By.” Nonie’s quilt was inspired by this scene….

…and this is her version….

This is what she had to say about it…..

I try to do all my own quilting. I like a variety of quilts, colors and styles and like trying different ideas and methods. I probably have a dozen tops waiting to be quilted! I have watched As Time Goes By so many times I think I have it memorized. I fell in love with the pinwheel quilt on Lionel and Jean’s bed in the London house. So I decided to make one of my own. This quilt was almost my first big attempt at feathers. It is almost King sized and stays on our bed. British TV is wonderful and it is fun to spot quilts in the shows.

You can see the great feathers that she added to the borders…..

Thank you Nonie, for sharing with us…..

THIS conversation reminded me of one of my quilts inspired by the same show.

In my case, the quilt is based on the picture in the background here….

Here is MY version…..

“As Blue Goes By”

So, how about the rest of you? Have you made quilts based on TV sightings? If so, I would love to see them!!

If you enjoy this blog, please share it with your friends!!!

Thank you…….
