Stepwells as quilt inspiration

Have you ever heard of a “Stepwell”? They are found primarily in India and serve three purposes….

Water storage: Stepwells were built to collect and store rainwater during monsoons for use during the dry season.
Water access: They provide a way to access the water table, which could be very deep underground in arid regions.
Community hub: Their elaborate design made them important social and ceremonial centers, sometimes housing as many as 100 steps to reach the bottom.

This is what they look like….

Isn’t that cool to look at?

And look at it from this angle..

And look at the angles on this one in a photo taken by Pam Holland….

Wouldn’t it be fun to use this idea in a quilt design?

How would you do it??

Fence inspiration from Dunoon

On Saturday, I told you about our walk around the town of Dunoon, Scotland.

I saw these fences and immediately started planning flower quilts in my head….

These designs would make fun appliques OR great machine quilting patterns!

What would you make?

Can I do this with fabrics?

I have been watching reels and shorts about painting and came across one from “Tipperley Hill”. The business is comprised of two artists who collaborate on their creations. You might want to check out their website for more. In this video, they are further collaborating with Amy Bonsor.

In one of their reels, they took paper circles and sewed them to a background like this…..

(If you are on Instagram, you can see the video HERE )

Wouldn’t this be fun to do with fabric?

You would need to stiffen the fabric with some product…..I suppose you could use “Mod Podge” of something similar. OR, you could fuse the fabric to another fabric to seal the edges and add some heft.

BUT, regardless of HOW you did it, I think it would be SO MUCH FUN to play with!!

And one more thing….also check out the works of Amy Bonsor. They are totally amazing!!

What do you think?

What types of designs would you make from quilted fabric circles?
