Get flatter, crisper seams with a little help from heat and pressure.
A tailor’s clapper is a simple hardwood tool used immediately after pressing. The wood holds the heat and steam in the fabric as it cools, helping seams lie flatter and stay that way.
WHY I LIKE IT
This is one of those wonderfully simple tools that really works.
After I press a seam, I place the clapper on top for a few seconds while the fabric cools. The combination of heat, steam, and pressure gives me a noticeably flatter seam.
I especially like it when I have bulky seams or lots of seam allowances coming together—exactly the places where getting everything nice and flat can be a challenge.
There are no moving parts, no learning curve, and nothing fancy about it. Press, place the clapper on top, wait a few seconds, and move on.
