Pantone Color of the Year

Each year I wait (with baited breath) to learn what color has been selected by Pantone as their color of the year.

In 2022, I made a quilt based on the Periwinkle color…..

….and last year I used “Viva Magenta” as the basis for this quilt……

“Crossing Hemispheres”

So, I was excited when I saw that the 2024 color had been named……

However, I am having a hard time coming up with any excitement about using it!!

Right now it seems a rather bland and uninteresting color but that probably just means that I need to play with it some and add other colors that will highlight it.

OKAY….add that to my future quilts to-do list!!!

What would you do with this color?

Pantone Fabric Pull

Last weekend I posted about the Pantone Color of the Year…..

….followed by lots of different palette ideas on the next day…..

NOW it was time to get into the studio and pull some fabrics!!

The fabrics on the top shelves were easy to see…..

But those on the bottom shelves were impossible to get to…..

…..unless I threw myself into it and just sat on the floor…..

This was much better and LOOK at all of those fun fabrics.

I started out by putting the color on my phone and matching fabrics to it. I was amazed to find all of these…..

Next, I started looking at fabrics where Magenta was an accent color…..

AND THEN I FOUND THIS ONE…..

Isn’t that a gorgeous mix of colors!!!

SO…..what if I made THIS my colorway and started looking for fabrics to match!!

How about this one……

Or this……

And don’t get me started about this one…..

Before long my table looked like this…..

…. a GLORIOUS mass of colors!!

But it was time to refine it a bit!! I started by putting down a whiteboard so that the bright purple cutting mat didn’t distort the colors……

….and I started adding fabrics……

It was going to need a background fabric so I added these creams…..

But when I did that, I sort of lost the “accent fabric”!!

So, it was back to the inspiration fabric…..

SO…..this is where I have left it!!

And I know you are asking…..

WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO MAKE WITH THIS???

The truthful answer is that I have NO idea!!! I have been thinking about playing with “Half-Square Rectangles”, so something may come from that.

But, even if I don’t make anything, it was still fun playing with fabrics!!

What would you make??

Pantone Palettes

Yesterday I posted about the 2023 Pantone Color of the Year……

THEN, I started searching for color palettes that included this vivacious color!! Man, did I hit the jackpot!

And if that weren’t enough, look at these wedding shoots that used Viva Magenta as well.

I especially love the Indian wedding!!

I am sure that you have noticed that in most cases, this color was used as a contrast or just to add that “POP” of color that we are always looking for!!

I think that I can enjoy using Viva Magenta in my projects, but probably NOT as the main color……we will see!!

Would you use this in quilts? If so, HOW???

Pantone Color of the Year

At the end of 2021, I learned about the “Pantone Color of the Year”. For 2022, it was a lovely Periwinkle and I used it to begin picking fabrics for this quilt…

Needless to say, I was anxiously awaiting the revelation of the 2023 Color of the Year, and I was NOT disappointed.

It is the very exciting VIVA MAGENTA….

I immediately started looking thru some of our travel photos, trying the match the color to Viva Magenta…..

and found these beauties……

And look at these two for a contrasting color to add in……

….or this one for a darker Magenta to add to it……

Now I cant wait to get into my stash and see what I can come up with!!

Is this a color that you would ever use???
