Awards from the Show…

I was extremely happy to receive four ribbons from our show this weekend.

I received an Honorable Mention award for “Escala Azule”……

A Second Place award for “Hot Espresso, Cool Gelato”……..

A Second Place award for “Blew Two”

And my favorite…..the “Best Machine Quilting” Award for “Study in White”……

As you can see the ribbons were wonderful. ……

Nancy B. made ALL 60+ of them by herself….without ANY help. She wrote to me just before the show and said that she was having “separation anxiety” and wondered if she could just give us the ribbon tails and keep all of the blocks for herself!!!! I dont blame her one little bit!!!

OK….so the show is now over!! It was a wonderful 4 days of spending time with some of the nicest people in the whole world.

All that is left is the Post-Show party on Tuesday and then I can get back to some tax work. I know that my clients will be pleased!!!!

Anatomy of a Quilt Show Setup Day

On Thursday I spent the day helping to set up for the Cotton Patch Quilter Guildt Show.

We entered the Civic Center at 7:00am to see an empty room….except for the tables and chairs that we had requested…..

The first step is to tape out the floor so that we know exactly where the vendor booths and frames will go. Then the sheets for the Vendor booth’s go up on the walls…..

And here come the frames…..

As you can see, we had lots of help from our husbands and other male friends.

Next step….get the quilt hanging poles ready for each bay…..

Staging crews go first and place the quilts on their appropriate hanging pole…

And hanging crews put them up on the frames…..

Name tags are added…….

Then the floor is cleared, the doors are closed and the ribbons arrive. Who will win this lovely purple ribbon?????

The preview party is held where all of the winners are announced and then the doors are opened to reveal our WONDERFUL SHOW!!!!! Three days, 250 quilts, 12 vendors and LOTS of good times to come.

I cant wait!!!!

De-decorating

Today was the day to do the bad deed…..take down the Christmas tree and all of the decorations and put up the winter decorations…..and the name of the season is “Winter Blues”…..

I made this quilt in 1994 and it was one of the first of my monthly quilts. I bought the main fabric (with the deer and snow covered trees) at a little shop in Madison, Georgia and the quilt idea was born from there. I love the mix of blues and grays and the name “Winter Blues” just seemed to fit.

The rest of the house is decorated with lots of blue bottles and vases, as well as a few snowmen…..just perfect for the month of January!!!!!

Making Labels

Today I made the labels for the last two quilts that I have finished. I use my computer to print the labels which are made using Powerpoint.

The Sunflower photo was taken at a field a few miles from my house and then colored to a Sepia tone.

By the way, I found out on Tuesday that the Sunflower quilt was accepted into the Cobb County Quilt Guild show in Atlanta, Georgia in September. I am excited to see it hanging there!!

The Portugal photo was the actual photo that I used for my inspiration.

Today I have also been quilting on the Whole-Cloth piece that I am working on. It has been fun to have this project that I can come back to whenever I want to do some machine quilting.

Last night we had the preview party for our guild (Cotton Patch Quilters) show and I won FOUR ribbons….

First place for “Seasonal Stroll”……

Second place for “Mother – Daughter Flower Garden”……

Third place for “Peacock Pavillion”……..

Honorable Mention for “Paint Can Flowers”……..

I was very excited about all of those. The two quilts that did not win were:

“Ten Around Penhill”

and “Marley”

The show is wonderful and hanging yesterday was a breeze. We used a new system that I had seen at the Houston Quilt Festival and it worked so well. We were thru hanging at 4:15….an all time record. Normally, we have been hanging at 5:30 as the preview party was starting.

Enough for today…..I am out the door to spend a wonderful day among my three favorite things…. quilts, quilters and quilt vendors!!!!
