Year of the Scrap Strikes Again….

I know that this wont surprise anyone, but I have started a new scrap quilt!!

In the waning moments of 2024, I had a good look at my scraps and realized that I needed to start using my strips!!

While scrolling Youtube one day, I hit a video from Missouri Star and this quilt caught my eye…..

I immediately started thinking about all of the 2-inch white squares I had left from my “Windmill Chain” quilt…..

….and then looked at the 2-inch strips in my drawer…..

….and a quilt was planned!!

I decided to use a 10-inch block….

….and started playing with possible settings…..

OKAY…. I can probably do something with this!!

Stay tuned and we will get started on this fun quilt!!

QOV IN Progress

My friend, Marnie, and I are currently working on a Quilt-Of-Valor and I wanted to give you a little peek……

Marnie has been madly piecing 1/2-square triangles….

and turning them into windmill blocks….

I did a bit of trimming…..

…and now it is back to her to start putting the sections together.

This is our plan……so far……

Can’t wait to get it finished and presented!!

This Isn’t How I Work!

Yesterday I talked about my new scrap quilt ending with a bunch of 60-degree triangles ready to go.

Now, let’s get real here……

This isn’t how I normally work!! I seldom start out without a plan and it is definitely OUT of my comfort zone!!

With that in mind, I headed to the design wall and started playing with different arrangements.

I could do this…..

…..or this……

Or, I could add some triangle pops of color…..

Or….maybe add some slivers of color between some of the triangles….

OR…..

Wait a minute….. I like that last one!!!

So now I need to figure out what else I can do with this idea!!

Alas, no more time this week….maybe next week!!

On the Edge of my comfort zone

As I mentioned in Monday’s post, I am working on several projects that are WAY out of my comfort zone.

This is the first!!

It started with this inspiration photo that I shared a few weeks ago…..

Often I have no intention of making a quilt from the inspiration, but this one got stuck in my brain!

Also on my mind was this box of hand-dyed strips…..

These came from my friend, Anita, after she had closed her dyed-fabric business. They were the bits left over from cutting fat-quarters and other sizes of fabrics.

I just couldn’t shake the “what would happen if” thoughts!!

So, with a few hours in my studio, I grabbed the box of fabrics and started piecing dark blue fabrics into strip sets…..

….that were a bit over 6.5-inches in deep and at least 8-inches wide.

I then used my Deb Tucker Ruler (Wedge Star)….

….and cut a triangle out of the center of the strip……

I took the two extra bits and evened up the straight edge…..

I was then able to sew two triangles together….

….ending up with another big triangle (this photo was before I trimmed it down with the ruler)……

So now I have TONS of strip-filled triangles…..

What can I do with them??

More Strip Quilt Inspiration

I took this photo several years ago when we were visiting in Sarasota, Florida…..

Now that my mind is increasingly on Scrappy Strip Quilts, I am looking at it with renewed enthusiasm.

Maybe something like this…..

YIKES….I need to take yesterday’s advice…..

….. stop planning and make a start!!!!
