THESE feathers are fun….

As you could probably tell from my last post, I wasn’t super excited about the feather motifs that I created as part of the Angela Walters’ Feather FMQ Challenge!! Actually, that is an understatement….I HATED what I did!!

So, It was with much fear and trembling that I started quilting a BIG feather on one of the sides!! In her instructions, Angela gave lots of ideas for how to quilt these four corners and I struggled to decide what to do.

I finally made up my mind to quilt feathers flowing from either side of the point. I drew in the first lines…..

….and started quilting….

This time I quilted using a simple feather where there is no traveling and it went together perfectly. I used a ruler to travel to the other side……

….and “feathered” a bit more…….

Okay….THIS one I like.

Now I wanted to do something at the point to fill in the corner and started to draw it completely out, but finally decided to “just-go-with-it”!!!

Once the initial shape was “drawn”, it was quick work to add feathers inside and out…..

Okay…. I LIKE IT….

The final step was to fill in the open areas with a filler FMQ design, but

I…COULDN’T….THINK…..OF…..ONE!!!

But, didn’t I just do a 10-week course about FMQ fill designs???

My mind went blank!!!

Finally, I pulled out my sample piece and started reminding myself of different designs that I could use.

I chose the swirl meander…..

….and THIS corner is finished!!

Now I just have to figure out what to quilt on the OTHER three!!

Come back next Friday……
