Quilts and Other Stuff from Frances

Intentionally practicing a new design!!

Today we are working through another one of Dorie Hruska’s designs from her book “Floral Confetti”…

If you missed the initial post and video about using this book, you can find it here….

I am happy with how it worked out and can’t wait to show you……

As I said in the video, I am looking forward to using this design (and maybe some others of hers) to fill in some LARGE squares!

Also in the video, I floated the idea of “intentional practice”. This involves trying to do my VERY best, even if the piece is just for practice.

Do you use “intentional practice”?

In this blog, I post DAILY stories about creativity, techniques, tools of the trade, and lots more about the wonderful art of quilting. If you are enjoying these posts, please subscribe to be notified of each new blog as it becomes available.

  1. I practice piano intentionally. When I sit down, I think about what I want to accomplish. Often, it’s perfecting a section that I always make mistakes on. I identify the problem spot, and keep practicing those few measures over and over until I can play them smoothly, then add the measures leading up to and the measures after that section, until I can play the whole piece smoothly.
I know that if I want to get better at free motion quilting, I need to practice the same same way–putting in the reps until the movements are smooth and accurate.
