This past weekend, I drove to Raleigh, North Carolina and spent 2 days at QuiltCon……
As usual, the convention center was wonderful, the vendors inspirational, and the quilts were amazing!
Please join me over the new few weeks as I show you some of my favorites from the show.
BUT FIRST……the Winners!!
This first quilt was awarded the “MQG Excellence Award” and it was definitely EXCELLENT…..

Janice said that it was a lesson in color theory that took her out of her color zone.
Best Hand Quilting was awarded to……

A close-up of the quilting shows why…..

Just look at how even all of those stitches are. Better her than me!!!
Best Original Modern Design was awarded to……

The technical work on this quilt was worthy of the ribbon…..

Best Machine Quilting was awarded to…..

The quilting was done on a domestic machine and is simple, but very well done. You can actually see it better on the back…..

Here is the back…..

Interestingly, I did not see the outline of a person in the quilting until just now!
Tomorrow we will start with the Wyndham Fabric Challenges…….

Please subscribe so that you don’t miss any of my favorites from QuiltCon…..
Thank you for taking us with you to the show with these posts. It is fascinating to see the trends.
Isn’t it Christie. Every year there are new things!!
I was there too and I think you need to explain about the winner. The write-up explains that the items depicted in the quilt, are items a teacher would use to protect herself snd her students, should she/he need to protect them against .. the threat on the back; the AR-15 and the outline of a shooter.. VERY powerful.
I had seen that as well Nancy, but I didn’t want to comment on the political nature of the quilt. I try to keep that out of my blog!! Thanks for your comment.
Well, I certainly couldn’t figure out how they got an AR-15 on the back of a quilt, but then the added explanation about the tools on the front and who might use them against the guy on the back, certainly did make sense then. I saw the gold and the black on front but didn’t know what DeWalt drill tools and Trophies had in common and all the other things, but NOW, it all makes sense and I thank the other reader for the explanation as I would still be wondering how they put that gun on the back. And, I didn’t notice the outline of person either until you mentioned it. Looks like it was a wonderful quilt show to attend.
It was a great show Sandra. I probably should have explained the quilt more!! Sorry.
