Georgia Celebrates Quilts – Part 4

Thank you for traveling with me thru the Georgia Celebrates Quilts show put on by the East Cobb Quilt Guild in Atlanta, Georgia. Today, we will finish up our trip.

This fun quilt was made by a first-time paper piecer….

“Daydreamer” by Deborah Schutt

This is a sensational hand (needle-turned) applique…

“The Animal Quilt” by Taffy McLaughlin

This is another wonderful animal applique….but Australian animals this time…..

“Gone Walkabout” by Melinda Rushing

Even more amazing is that she designed these blocks herself. Aren’t they wonderful!!

I also admired this quilt with it’s bright colors and excellent quilting….

“Blooming Dresden” by Sharon Hendrix

Just look at these flowers….

Now I arrived at the area that I was looking forward to and found a woman photographing my quilt…..

HOW EXCITING!!

This is the first time that I have seen this quilt displayed and I think that it held up well….

“Cathering Wheel of Color” by Frances Arnold

I enjoyed the colors and design of this quilt….

“Spinning Spools” by Sharon Hendrix

and you HAVE to see this next quilt up close…..

“Star Struck” by Vicki Evaristop

I know that it LOOKS like it is made of 60-degree diamonds, but NO!!!! It is made of TINY, 1/2-inch hexies…..

….some with a even tinier circle appliqued in the center!

She said that it took over 12 years to complete.

It was also fun to see “More Milkweed Please” displayed in a show…..

One of my favorites in the applique division was this incredibly quilted piece…..

“Butterfly Kisses” by Jan Cunningham

White thread on the blue background allowed the quilting to shine….

Then there was THIS quilt…..

“Dutch Treat” by Abbi Rabeneck

All of the blocks are hand stitched using reverse applique!! Oh my!!

There were two quilts by another member of our guild, starting with this AMAZING Cathedral Window….

“Bright Horizons” by Sue Lawrence

Sue also presented this gorgeous sunset…..

“Jekyll Sunrise” by Sue Lawrence

She used some fantastic techniques to depict the driftwood and sand!!

I was nearing the end of the show but still had to see another of Rosie’s quilts…..

“Mr P’s Plumage Ocelli” by Rosell Crockett

This quilt was made for our guild “Drunkard’s Path” challenge and made use of hand-made Shisha, and embroidery thread covered metal jump rings.

Rosie has the MOST AMAZING imagination and ideas!!

Well, that will end our tour of the “Georgia Celebrates Quilts” show for 2024. It is as biennial show so we will look forward to 2026!!

One of my favorite things about quilting is motivating others and helping them in their quilting journey. As part of this endeavor, I LOVE to present programs and workshops to groups and guilds around the world. All of my programs work well with Zoom meetings, and I would love to speak to your group.

  1. Two shows in July. Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show. 2nd Sat. And my local guild, Metropolitan Patchwork Society does an outdoor quilt show in the local park. Quilts hanging on ropes between the trees. No cost!

  2. Nobody can photograph every quilt in a show, so it must have touched your heart to see someone take a picture of your color wheel quilt. It means she wanted to remember it. Congratulations!
Thanks for sharing your photos from this show. So many beautiful quilts!
