When talking about why quilters hold on to their scraps, I once heard a teacher remind us that the scraps cost the same as the yardage!!
I hadn’t ever thought of it in that context and found the comment to be intriguing.
SO…..I ran some numbers and figured out how much the fabric for my scrap quilt TOPS would have cost. At $12 per yard….
$123……

$37……..

$75……

$56…….

$33……

So….a grand total of $324 worth of fabric that could have easily been thrown away!!
AND, if I think about the backings, which all came out of my fabric stash, I can add another $300 to the total for this year.
I don’t mind knowing that I have saved over $600 by using fabrics that were in my stash or scraps and ready to use.
Now let’s see how much more I can use up before the end of the year!!
As I said, it is now the YEAR of the SCRAP!!…

.

I’m glad we like scrap quilts! Also: throwing scraps out is bad for the environment. I saw a story on CBS Saturday Morning today about a company (Fab Scraps) that takes scraps from clothing manufacturers and resells them.
I have heard about that story and will definitely watch it!!
