Other Creativity

I had an idea that I would spend 20-minutes each morning doing something creative…..

Well, like each of the past 30 years, I have failed in that endeavor!! So much for New Year’s Resolutions!!

However, I have consoled myself by remembering the 6 days that I spent solely involved with our quilt show…..that’s a LOT of 20-minute sessions!!

But…let’s get on with this post.

In an effort to do SOMETHING creative, one evening I grabbed my sketchbook and started making Zentangles.

It took a couple of nights, but this was the result…..

It was so relaxing to draw shapes and fill them in with different shapes!!

Not what I had planned, but maybe even better!!

.

Inspired to stand STRONG!!

I love Daffodils!!

I love their bright yellow and orange colors.

I love that they arrive when I am SO ready for winter to be over.

I love that they stand STRONG even in the cold and snow, and weather that isn’t fit for ANYTHING!!

This year my Daffodils have been glorious….

They have made me smile when I was stressed and have brought forth a hope that this hard season of life WILL end.

So….my new motto is …. “STAND STRONG AND SHINE LIKE A DAFFODIL”

Keeping Track

I have been quilting for almost 40 years and have made hundreds of quilts.

I have kept photos of the quilts for the most part, even some from a LONG time ago…..

…but I don’t have any more information on them, especially the ones that have been given away.

For example, I know this one was given to charity…

….but I have no idea when, or what size it was, or ANY other details!!

To add another complication, in the last few years, I have been entering quilts in various shows and was getting tired of ALWAYS having to come up with an Artist Statement, and ALWAYS having to pull the quilt and measure it.

This has been my solution…..

For each quilt, I record the year finished, the name of the quilt, the quilt size, my artist statement, and a list of what show it was submitted to.

It is a great way to keep track of my quilts.

How do YOU keep track of your art projects??

Quilter’s Letter of Instruction

One of my favorite online shops is Quiltblox.com….

….operated by Deb Messina.

Deb is located in Oregon and part of one of my favorite quilt guilds…. the Metropolitan Patchwork Society of Beaverton, OR.

Deb sends out a weekly newsletter that is chock-a-block with patterns, ideas and information!!

She recently asked this…..

Have you given some thought to what happens to all those beautiful quilts you’ve created over the years? What about all those tools, patterns, books, and yes, what about all those fabrics in your stash?

Then she went on to suggest that we write a “Quilter’s Letter of Instruction” that our loved ones could use to make some of those decisions.

AND, being who she is, she put together a guide to create this letter!!

In this guide, she suggests several questions that you need to answer…..from “Who gets your fabric collection?” to directions for finding all of the OTHER craft stuff that you have “stashed” around the house. Think of this like a treasure map!!

Her final question is “Do you have strong feelings about anything that you don’t want to have happen to your stuff?”

Now this sounds like a big task to me, and one that I would probably put off for a later date, but she has made it easy and provided a download so you can just “fill in the blanks”.

Thank you Deb for giving us such a wonderful resource!! I am sure that one day my kids will be rejoicing as they read it!!

What can you do with Tulle?

How do you use Tulle in your creative life?

I have used it once to create a shadow…..

….and several times to cover collage quilts prior to quilting……

But, NEVER the way Benjamin Shine does…..

.

This video shows some of his 3-Dimensional uses of Tulle….he calls it “Molten Immersive Art”….

.

If you want to see more of his Tulle Works, check out his website…..

Be sure to click on the arrows on each side of the photos, since it shows you even MORE photos!!

He is definitely an artist worth watching in the future!!
