Quilter’s Guild of the Southern Crescent

This past Thursday I had the pleasure of speaking to the Quilter’s Guild of the Southern Crescent, located in the Fayetteville/ Peachtree City area of Georgia…..

They are an extremely active guild of 80+ members. Each month they have two meetings (one in the daytime and one at night).

The group on Thursday night was smaller in size…..

….but were enthusiastic in thinking about quilt inspirations!!

They are active in various community charity projects, including the “Quilts of Valor” program, and are looking forward to a two day fabric painting workshop with Lisa Thorpe…..

The maker of this charity quilt…..

….shared that she found these “seed packet” blocks when cleaning out her studio and turned them into this wonderful quilt. Maybe I should clean out my room and see what I find!

One of my favorite things about quilting is motivating others and helping them in their quilting journey. Me and Alex!!

The other day I was at the gym and, of course, watching Quilting videos on YouTube. It finished one video and I was in the middle of lifting weights so I just let YouTube pick what I watched next.

It was a recording of one of Alex Anderson’s live streams…….

After she said hello to everyone who had joined her, she showed a “funny” that one of her friends had posted on her Facebook page…..

At this point, I stopped lifting weights and leaned forward to look closely at the picture.

Don’t I KNOW that picture? Isn’t it the one that I posted on my blog back in 2022???

A Monday Funny……

YES IT WAS!!!

I love that the cartoon that my Mom cut out many years ago has made it all the way to Alex Anderson’s show!!!

By the way, that post has been viewed over 5,000 times which tells me that the subject matter hits pretty close to home with us quilters!!

Aren’t Quilters Fun People??

One of my VERY favorite things is to talk to guild’s about quilting.

This past week, I had the privilege of visiting with the “Spirited Quilters Guild” in Duluth, Georgia…..

Aren’t they a great group!!

I had so much fun presenting my talk….”The Challenge of Challenges” and they were super interactive and fun to speak to.

Prior to the meeting, a number of the members meet for dinner at a local Mexican Food Restaurant and I was invited to join in. I opened the door and espied a group of women at one table. When one looked up, I mouthed “quilters” and they all smiled and invited me over!! It was a sweet start to a lovely evening.

The guild is extremely busy and involved in many charity projects including “Quilts for Kids” and “Quilts of Valor”, and have just agreed to make 100 pillowcases for the Children’s Hospital of Atlanta!!

As usual, my favorite part of the evening was Show and Tell. Here are few…..

I am sorry that I don’t have the names of the makers and there were a bunch of others that I didn’t get photos of, but this gives you a good idea of the quality of their work.

I drove home with a smile on my face, remembering the kind words and sweet women that I had just met.

ARRGHH!

I recently needed to put a sleeve on my “More Milkweed Please” quilt.

I don’t know about you but I HATE attaching sleeves so I was super happy when this one was finished…..

Then Michael held it up for me and this is what I saw…..

ARRGGGGHHHH!!! I put it on the wrong side!!!

So I took it off and started over. This is better…..

…..but oh so frustrating!!

PLEASE tell me that you have done this too!!!

Quilts in the Art Gallery

One of my goals for 2024 was to visit at least one gallery, show or antique store each month. January was the Dallas Museum of Art. February was QuiltCon, March took me to the Victoria & Albert in London.

For April, I was back at home in Athens, Georgia!! Athens is an area known for a lot of things. First of all, the University of Georgia, a Division I school, known for excellence in teaching, research and of course, Football (Gridiron…not that British version)!

Secondly, Athens is known for it’s music culture. It is home to the rock groups….. B-52’s, REM, Widespread Panic, and many current country artists.

Finally, the area is teaming with potters, painters, photographers and, of course, quilters!

We have a wonderful Art Center and each year they have a much anticipated juried show. This year is the 49th show. Come and enjoy it with me.

Of course, the first thing that I headed to was a quilt…..
