I have been working on the quilting for the Brown Stripe Quilt…..

I finally decided to do a linear design in the stripes and a circular wreath design in the white blocks. Since the rulers that I ordered haven’t arrived yet, I started on the stripes……

After finishing 15 of the FORTY EIGHT stripe blocks, I decided that I needed a break.
Last week (while on the treadmill), I watched a woman piece crumb blocks. Now I have NEVER had any interest in making blocks out of my little bits and pieces, but she caught my interest. So, once I had grown tired of quilting, I pulled out all of pieces that were “too small to use but too big to throw away”…..

….and started piecing them into squares, using a base fabric for a guide…..

Come to find out, this is kind of fun and relaxing!!!!
Now I have made three……

…although I have no idea where they will go from here….maybe into a charity quilt.
It was certainly sweet to take the time to just do something mindless, but I can certainly see this turning into another BIG addiction!!!
We are fortunate to have a wonderful local art gallery located in the neighboring city. The gallery offers a rotating series of exhibits. One of the current exhibits focuses on using common objects in unusual ways.
While visiting the gallery I was drawn to this 9 piece series by Don Chambers. He gave the group the name “Cryptomnesia (forgotten memories that appear new to the subject)” and created them from a collection of found photographs.

These faded colors reminded of the photos that I took back in the 1960’s and 1970’s…..

The backs of these photos with their notes and dates remind me of the photos that I found in the back of closets at my Mom’s house…….

And this brought back memories of those crazy little corners that had stick-um on the back and you would lick them, stick them down and then TRY to get the photo to fit inside of them!!…..

But my favorite piece was this one……

My friend Diane had previously shown a photo and suggested that it would be a great quilt design. Of course I agreed, but couldn’t tell from the photo exactly what made up the design. I liked it even better when I saw that it was made from black and white photos with those “dirty white” edges around them.
I still think that it would be a brilliant quilt design….in black and white and maybe a pop of color here and there!! I think that I will put that into the “SOMEDAY” pile!!!
This is my friend Lyn……

…..all spiffed up and ready to begin her epic journey up the Appalachian Trail, a trip that covered 2,190 miles from Springer Mountain in Georgia to Mt. Katahdin in Maine…….

My parting gift to her was a “Hello Kitty” doll that made the entire trip and I loved getting photos of how far “HK” had traveled…..

As she hiked, the other thru-hikers presented her with a “trail name”….a name that says something about her personality that her given name never could. Her name is Wildflower!!!
As I created the Meadow Art piece (now called “Meadow Walk”), I kept thinking about Lyn and her connection to nature, so “Meadow Walk” is going to live at her house now and hopefully remind her of her much loved trail days!!

Today’s quote is one of my favorites as it reminds me that failing is NOT the end of the world as long as I learn something from it that I can take into future endeavors!!!
