Over the years I have posted lots of photos of hotel hallways as inspirations for quilting projects. At this stage, I can’t remember when or where this photo was taken….

…..but I love the angles and shapes that are formed.
NOW, in my “SUMMER OF THE SCRAP” mode, I looked at this photo again and wondered what it would look like with scrap strips!!
THAT might be fun to play with and heaven knows, I have plenty of strips to play with!!!
We stayed in a Holiday Inn this past week in Columbia, SC that had the same carpet design. I also wondered if it could translate into an abstract quilt pattern.
Great minds think alike!! I just checked the date on the photo and it was in a Holiday Inn Express in Raleigh, SC!! Maybe it’s a SC thing!!
Who knows where the inspiration came from?
Your followers may or may not be aware there was a 2006 copyright infringement suit settled in favor of quilter Paula Nadelstern as the Hilton attached to the Convention Center (where annual International Quilt Festival is held) had Courtisan carpeting which replicated her quilt designs without permission from her book, Kaleidescopes & Quilts.
You know Laura, now that you mention it, I do remember the lawsuit. I always thought that it was funny that the hotel was at the Convention Center!! I am working on a quilt that is a representation of the carpet from the Holiday Inn Express that is a block away from the convention center. Thanks for your comment!!
