I am amazed at how quickly the flowers are coming up this year. It looks as if Winter is over (what little Winter we had), but I am still concerned that we might have one last cold snap before it is all over.
Here are a few photos from around my house…..
The Dogwood tree has been gorgeous…..
This lovely Iris is a gift from a good friend. It is fun to think about her when I see these blooms (thanks Kris!!)…
This plant just gets bigger and bigger……
These tulips remind me of several years ago when my daughter’s Dog was just a puppy……
I really cant believe that the Elephant Ears are coming up. They normally wait until the first of June!!! Last year I add a lot of soil and mulch to these bulbs and obviously it was a good thing….
The ferns are starting to emerge…..
Unfortunately the weeds are also starting to show out which means that I should spend more time in the yard and less in my studio. We will see which wins out!!!
We have had wonderful rains this spring and summer and all of the flowers and foliage have been beautiful.
HOWEVER, it has also meant that the weeds are completely out of control. I always have these wonderful ideas that I will spend one day every 2 weeks and weed beds, but there are always other, more fun things to do. Plus, if I spend an entire day in the yard I am so sore and tired that I dont ever want to do it again.
So, last week I had the brilliant idea to try to work for 15 to 20 minutes each morning (at least Monday thru Friday). So, each morning I go to the gym, and before I even walk back in the door, I grab my gloves and trowel and head to the flower beds.
So far it has worked great….the flower beds are already looking better and, for some reason, it seems to energize my day and help me to get a lot more accomplished each day!!!!
So, I guess the motto for the summer needs to be….”weed first, then play”!!
A few posts ago, I mentioned the passing of a friend named Pat. She LOVED to watch the birds and, when I was last at her house, noticed a suet holder that had shreds of fabric. The idea is that the birds will get the small pieces of fabric and use them to decorate their nests. I thought it was a lovely idea, so yesterday I bought a suet holder and made a fabric store for birds.
